How it works: Convert PDF to text online

PDF to Text helps reuse selectable text from reports, articles, instructions, and documents exported from office software. It reads the stored text layer; it does not recognize letters in scanned images.

  1. 1

    Choose a PDF

Open one file up to 50 MB and 500 pages. Password-protected PDFs cannot be processed by this tool.

  2. 2

    Set a page range

All pages are included by default. Enter numbers or ranges such as 1-3, 8 to extract only the relevant part.

  3. 3

    Extract and review

Run extraction and read the preview. It shows up to 20,000 characters; the downloaded file contains the complete extracted result.

  4. 4

    Download or copy

Save a UTF-8 TXT file or copy the text to your clipboard. Page text is separated by blank lines and does not include the original page design.

When to use this tool

Use the result for searching, quotations, notes, and further editing. A plain text file does not retain the page layout, pictures, or table formatting.

Extract only the pages you need

Page ranges avoid unnecessary content and help keep very large extraction jobs within browser memory limits.

No OCR guesswork

The tool reads actual stored text. A page without a usable text layer is reported instead of being presented as a successful recognition.

Plain UTF-8 output

TXT can be opened in a text editor and reused in other applications. Fonts, drawings, and images are not exported.

Local preview and download

The PDF and extracted text stay on your device. Clipboard access may depend on browser permission; TXT download is available as an alternative.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a scanned PDF to text?

Only if it already contains a usable text layer. An image-only scan requires a separate OCR tool; this converter does not perform OCR.

Will columns and tables keep their formatting?

No. Text is extracted in the order provided by the PDF. Columns, tables, unusual encodings, and complex layouts may need manual correction.

Why is no text found even though letters are visible?

The page may contain a scanned image, letters drawn as vector outlines, or text without a usable encoding. Visible letters alone do not guarantee a readable text layer.

Can I extract only a few PDF pages?

Yes. Enter a comma-separated list or ranges, for example 2, 5-7. Duplicate numbers are processed once and pages are extracted in document order.

What limits apply?

One PDF up to 50 MB and 500 pages is accepted. Extraction stops above 5 million text characters; choose a smaller page range if necessary.
